"Building a Legacy: The Evolution of Oceanside Youth Football Association"
The Oceanside Youth Football Association (OYFA) was established in 1999 after breaking away from the Nanaimo Football Association. Under the leadership of President Jim Lynch and Vice-President Joe Martino, Oceanside entered the Mid-Island Co-operative Football League with three Junior Bantam teams - the Packers, Eagles, and Vikings. The Bantam team, the Posse, coached by Joe and Chris Martino, went on to win the Provincial Championship in their inaugural year. In the early 2000s, the PeeWee division was introduced with teams like the Panthers, Vikings, and Lions. The Lions Peewee team achieved great success by winning the Vancouver Island Canadian Football Association (VICFA) championship in 2024. Throughout the years, various teams from different areas on Vancouver Island have participated in the Mid-Island Co-operative League, showcasing the growth and expansion of the OYFA. In 2016, the OYFA underwent a restructuring process, consolidating under the banner of the Oceanside Lions PeeWee and Junior Bantam programs. The club has since introduced a new Atom flag team, bringing the total number of teams to three. Despite facing challenges, the club has worked tirelessly to rebuild the program, attracting both players and coaches. With a dedicated team and a strong foundation, the Oceanside Lions Football Club (OYFA) continues to thrive and improve with each passing season. #GoLions
